Rattlesnakes? Ah, that is a mating ritual. The male snakes will compete in a 'pushing contest,' where the strongest male snake gets the 'girl snake.'

They only appear to be dancing.

It is usually a mating experience, though for the King Cobra it can be when two males mock-fight to find out who is dominant and who has the right to both territory and female snake.

It's actually very fascinating to watch, and no one knows yet just how one male determines that he lost and the other one won, but they do & one will beat a hasty retreat leaving the other to their own corner of the universe.
