MLB does not allow drugs or alcohol in the dugout, at any time...however, alcohol is allowed, and drank in mass consumption in the locker room after the game, on the team flight home, etc...

In fact, Wade Boggs used to drink 20 beers on west coast flights from California to Boston/New York.

But just like you would not drink at your job (unless you were a bartender), baseball players would not be able to play very well if they were wasted. Of course, I am sure Babe Ruth was an exception to that, along with Whitey Ford, Mickey Mantle, and Joe Dimagio.

Could you imagine trying to face a guy like Liriano, throwing 98 mph, while you are seeing double?
