This job can be quote a chore. One of the problems is that windows xp records your system configuration and will make you reactivate your windows XP if it see such a major change. Another is that the windows installation on the hdd is customized to the original system hardware. You can do a windows system repair, but this can be troublesome. Your cleanest solution is to backup all your personal files and do a new clean XP install and then reinstall all your programs and personal files.

The opnly problem you might come accorss is if the PC is an HP. HP usuallyhas its own recovery CDs. So, when you make a change to the original PC (like adding RAM or Changing a Hard Drive, or Mother Board) the Operating Syatem will not recognize the original Hardware Configuration Settings on the New and Improved PC, so it may not run and you may need an OEM Operating Syatem (Like XP from Walmart). Then again, the only way to be sure is to give it a GO and find out because I hear that HP hardwires their original PC hardware configuration into their Motherboard, so by replacing it, there might not be a problem.

The XP will find the hard drive and configure it to work...not to worry...the hard drives have changed little. If it is an old hard drive, make sure the Mother board has an IDE plug for the harddrive cable. Made sure the "red" marking on the harddrive cable is where it should be (Usually on the extreme right as you look at the HD from the back when you plug in the IDE control cable. good luck.

usual, your working gadget would be positive. this is, you will nonetheless have XP and you will nonetheless have the working courses and the non-public archives you have saved up. What you may ought to handle are the recent factors that contain the recent motherboard. assume XP to prompt you that it somewhat is got here upon new hardware and could decide on the drivers for them. in case you have drivers for those factors, then each and every thing would desire to be positive interior of an hour or 2. If no longer, you may ought to get the drivers from another source, positioned them on CD for occasion, and then installation the hardware that way. with a bit of luck the ethernet card (which permits cyber web onto your pc) installs ok so as which you will acquire drivers that way.

The hard drive doesn't recognize anything.

Buy any motherboard you want (it detects the harddrive not the other way around) Just make sure you have ATA slots on it, most motherboards do. (it's also called pATA) the dude at the computer store will know what you are talking about.

Your new mother board should recognize and boot from your old hard drive. If the motherboard comes with a driver CD, once you have booted you will want to run it to update all the drivers for the new board. But you should be able to boot the old drive on the new board.

the hard drive does not recognize the mother board. It works the other way around. should be no problem as long as the new board has the same interface for the hdd as the old one.
