I assume you mean a one inch breakdown in small increments for a ruler math measurements

1/4 Means there are 4 spacer from zero to one inch

1/8 Means there are eight spaces from zero to one inch

1/16 means there are sixteen spaces from zero to one inch

1/32 Means there are thirty two spaces from zero to one inch

1/64 Means there are sixty four spaces from zero to one inch

1"=2*0.5"=4*0.025"=8*0.0125" and so on limit distance tending to zero
1"->.5"->.25" and so on if i have understood you correctly
many a time i have a nagging doubt at the back of my mind that the wording of the question is ambiguous
