If they have your driver's license they can start using your id. They can open a new account.

You need to close the account and report your driver's license stolen to the police. You will need the police report when people start coming after you to collect money you do not owe.

First and most important report your lost drivers license. it is important to report lost licenses so that the DMV flags your license. So anytime in future if somebody uses your license he/she will be caught for cheating!
Second go to your bank and close your account.
Report your college ID stolen and ask for a fresh one.
Whatever it is get all the things done right away and don't wait for your things to just turn up!

If the account is closed then they will probably get in trouble. Just like a stolen credit card. That's if it was stolen.

Yes, unfortunately they can. Using those numbers along with your name, address, etc. enables them to open charge accounts in your name, take out a mortgage in your name, and a whole host of other things. The companies don't have to prove that it was you who spent the money. It would be your responsibility to prove that you did not.

Most victims of identity theft have to spend countless hours and untold amounts of money trying to clear their name. I just hope that it doesn't turn out to be that way for you.

No, they can't. If you close the account and they start to use it, it will say that the account doesn't exist.
