just curious, would like to know, or is there no guarantee that the show has to find the Idol, or the million dollar prize winner, etc

The show ends, they go home. While the objective of any reality show is that YES, they have to find one winner, there's no ironclad guarantee of it. The contract contestants sign is basically registering them as a participant; there are no guarantees.
But that's life, which reality TV tries to emulate, doesn't it?

I am sure there are contentions for that in the contract they sign before the show starts.
