For the most part, Just be careful when matching the two up. a rich chocolate brown would go with lavender, or a dark plum would go with a darker brown.

Sure brown is a neutral like black,purple will look fine with brown.

depends on what shade the brown and purple is.
also, what pattern it is. i wouldn't really pick those colors to be together though...
