If you have internet available to you at the office, get involved in an internet marketing program. You earn money while you are being employed at the same time. Moreover, whenever the boss comes looking over your shoulder, you can just minimize the windows and it seems as though you're doing your work. Thats the best way, turning "loose" hours into profitable hours. But get enrolled into legitimate and feasible programs which are not scams and really help you to earn money. This is the order of operations for my boring office job:
Do your nails
Clean your ring
Surf the internet - Myspace, Yahoo Mail, CNN, Bored.com, Yahoo Questions, Ebay, google people you know, buy gifts and books
Make doctors appointments
Call Mom
Call Dad
Call Brother
Figure out finances
etc.... I've learned to not waste time sitting there.

I surf the net, listen to music, revisit those old calculus problems that I never was able to work out. Obviously this might not work in your office environment, so use discretion. If I'm in a meeting and "zoning out", I'll think of a song, then use the last letter of the song and use that to think of another. This works with albums, bands, movies, whatever.
