Some are parents think that anime is for children because of the drawing. However, they don't bother to look at the actual label of age rated and that make their children have a negative violent behaviour.
While, others think is not for children because of many reasons such as blood, violence, nudity, coarse lanagugae and complex, philosophical and provoking messages.
Pro or con?

We all know that Digimon, Cardcaptor Sakura, Pokemon or any anime Disney's ( Spirited Away) are for young children, which are seldom. Most anime, in general, are for teenagers and young adults. Age-rated for any anime are writting in Anime News Network, IMDB.
Example Gundam SEED

Cowboy Bebop
Canada:14+ (Quebec) (video rating) (some episodes) / USA:TV-14 (Cartoon Network Version) (edited version) / Singapore:Unrated / Canada:13+ (Quebec) (video rating) (some episodes) / USA:TV-MA / Japan:R / UK:12A (some episodes) / Italy:VM14 (video rating) / Argentina:18 / Australia:MA (episode 16) / Australia:M / Germany:16 / South Korea:15 (DVD rating) / Spain:7 / UK:12 (most episodes) / UK:15

There is anime made for all age groups, but most of what comes to the United States is not for kids. Anime became more popular in the US because of the variety of shows and more mature plotlines.
I am selective of what anime I allow my nephews watch. They are three and four. Ghibli Films, mostly. But I know better than to let them watch some of my favorties. ^_~

As far as anime in America, I agree that children under 12 shouldn't be watching most of it, even the heavily edited versions. In Japan, and other countries however, kids are able to watch shows that are much more involved at fairly early ages, and not have problems with violence or destructive behavior. The way I see it, American kids (and I was one a long time ago) are too sheltered, and just can't handle a lot of stuff they see in movies and on tv. That's why we have the FCC to tell us what we can and can't watch or listen to.
And as for myself, there's only one person in my real life that understands why I love anime as much as I do. Everyone else just thinks I'm "watching cartoons." Many people don't realize how involved the story lines are, and that there are a lot of anime that are geared for older audiences.

People in the US mostly think that cartoons are for kids, and don't always look at the ratings on them.
I had a problem with a rental place I used for a while, because the clerks kept putting "Wizards" in the kids' section even though it was rated "R". It has scenes that are bad for some adults, but it is animated, so they thought it was a kids' movie.
I hope more Americans have been paying attention, so that they realize that all cartoons are not for children.

I agree. I love anime, by the way. Some anime is fine for children. Some anime I don't even want to watch. The anime they show on cartoon network is edited alot, so it seems more tame than it is. Some anime (that you won't see on Cartoon Network, I'm sure) is in no way meant for children.(Speed Grapher is one. Watch the first dvd and you'll see what I mean.) I don't think Japan even intends some of these anime for kids.
Of course it also depends on the kids.

well no...like gundam seed ..and especially seed destiny...are so not sudable for younger children ..i don't think they even actually get the story if they watch it...they'd just say..."lolz...the huge giant robots are coolllllll" and stuff like dat...and really i don't think that the depth and provoking stuff inside the anime would really have a positive reaction to the child...just as some people say anime contains....certain language..certain actions..violence...blood...and revenge and that other stuff...so ya...however...if u'd notice in america...or any place in north america..and any place other than japan and china they actually "cut out" the really "innaporpriate" parts...for children to watch...my example would be in naruto during the chunin exam when sasuke broke zaku's arm...u no how there's a red sceen just to show how it's like blood and stuff...however in other places.."the more appropriate" version would skip some parts and turn that red sceen to a green sceen...(btw...it's green cuz greens a natural peace colour rather than a red bloody war crimson colour) however for those older than 12 or 13 i really recommend them to watch the gundam seed series cuz it's really good especially the plot and the story line..however it's like really sad....

all right here i go....a 1...a 2.... and a 3.....
we here in the good old USA keep our children too ignorant of many real life things and because of that our kids don't ever learn curtain lessons EVER even as adults, they may die not learning them, and because of this much Aime is not for them, and some Aime is meant for older people no matter where you are, i wouldn't let my kids watch 'Knights of Ramune' no matter what, but if i taught them well i would let them watch the original unedited version of 'One Piece' or 'Dragonball', both of which were edited out the ***, and 'Knights of Ramune' was just terrible. Parents don't keep an eye on their kids properly, I'd say only 90% of the parents in this country do, and only 1% who brag about keeping a good eye on their kids actually do. And the FCC are a bunch of hemp sniffing, Matloc watching, grumpy B*****ds!!! nuf said....nuf said

Technically, yeah. Kids under 12 aren't really supposed to read that kind of stuff at their age. Some has strong language and nudity which shouldn't even be drawn...One time I saw this first grader with a DragonBall Z Graphic Novel and it made me think "By the year 2012, will every little kid read Japanese Graphic Novels under their certain age they're supposed to read???"

Actually if you visit Japan the have anime for all ages from toddlers to adult. If you get age specific ones say like hamtaro for kids it wouldnt be such a problem. the thing is most people dont research what is available and read about it.
