Cause it didn't stop walking, unlike the rabbit which preferred to rest. Perseverance is put forward.

According to the physcology of the siuation, the turtle is a steady creature. Always moving forward and occasionally stopping to take a look at life around it.

On the other hand the rabbit. Speeds ahead and because of it's contant movement, tires easily and must rest. It doesn't take time to look at life around it. It just goes. Sometimes getting lost along the way.

Which one are you? Are you a turtle or a rabbit. I used to be a rabbit but since I got terrible ill 2 years ago I became a turtle.

Your question should be "Why DID the turtle win". The answer's because it DID. It's only a story.

If the race was re-run the rabbit would win 999 times out of 1000.

the turtle and the hare.... slow and steady wins the race! because the rabbit was so busy showing off to the turtle how fast and incredible he was he ended up getting lost or injured or falling asleep for a long time and losing the race because doing something quickly and half assed is never as good as something that you do slowly and with precision..in the real world this or turtle and hares this story is stupid though

I don't know the details, but this story has nothing to do with what anyone has said thus far. Sorry, guys.
It really has to do with astronomy. The rabbit represents the moon and the turtle represents the earth(I think) as they both 'race' or revolve around the sun. I forget the details(I'm doing some online search for it now) but this is the real basis for the story.

The real reason? Because the rabbit is an IDIOT!!. I think the turtle is pretty stupid to for even getting into this race. The rabbit wasted his time just like a teenaged boy ( or any other man in my house) Even though he could have had that race in an instant he chose to get distracted and show off and lolly gag around and loose total track of time ( sounds like that teen aged boy again.)
The trutle wins because he is goal focused. Which one are you???

My rabbit is very determined if she entered a race she wouldn't stop no matter what happened, so she would win but then go back and bunny bonk the turtle until it got to the end.

Slow and steady wins the race, which means the turtle wins. Also, the rabbit stopped 48 times to shag ten female rabbits....and one squirrel.

The rabbit becomes over-confident and arrogant, too sure of his abilities and, literally, rests on his laurels. While the turtle perseveres despite the fact that he is obviously outmatched. Perseverance wins out against over-confidence. The story was written to illustrate the old adage that, "Pride goeth before a fall".

obvious moral of the story is to teach kids patience, but could be several reasons really...what if the rabbit stubbed his toe half way thru...it'd make me wanna stop and take a time out...or what if the turtle was rollerblading...or the rabbit ran too close to the road and got hit by a car...who knows really. Hope you find a good answer! :D

Rabbit lost because of his arrogance, and the turtle was like the little train who could!
