IT is a good area to get into but its a broad spectrum of subjects that can be covered and specialist in. For example you could be a programmer or a Network engineer it all depends on what the area is that interests you. Pay is variable also. I would suggest that you don't just do IT for the money as often you have to start at the very bottom and have to work very long hours before you can get anywhere. It certainly will help if you enjoy the job in the first place. Good Luck!

Depends on what you mean, where you are, and what kind of work you like to do.
If you mean programming and in the US then the job market outside defence/intelligence work will probably shrink slowly over time as India (and other low paying countries) pick up more of the programming jobs. So if you are in certain developing countries the market could be excellent.
If you mean IT as in administration/support for computer systems then that will probably continue to grow for a long time.
Pay also depends on what type of job and location. Check out www.salary.com

Yeah, it's just a great career, as long as you don't get too involved into a special area, like programming for instance.
I'd recommend you to study business consulting, so that way, you can run later your own business, and that's the first step for great revenues!!!
Luck,
