Spitting up/out, rash, and upset tummy---bunched fists, crying/beet red screaming.
Good luck mommy! Take it slow at first with the cereal. That's a whole different ballgame than formula and breastmilk! Also, she won't eat as often because the cereal keeps her full longer. So if she's not eating like she regularly does, don't panic...the cereal kept her going longer!

Rice cereal is pretty much the easiest thing to give a baby and have no worry. I have a 9 month old and when i would give her cereal it helped her sleep threw the night. If you get the nipples with the X in the tip you can put the cereal right in the bottle. A 4 month old isnt really too gd at eating off of the spoon. LOL. I still do the bottle trick sometimes. The nipples come with the skinny VentAir bottles- which are awesome! gd luck! And congrats.

Look for vomiting besides a rash, but Rice is not an allergen like wheat so no worries.
And for the other answerer, no 4 months is not too early. Mine usually started on cereal by 2 or 3 months.

I started feeding my daughter the rice cereal when she was 3 months old by feeding her the real liquidy rice cereal in the mornings. After about a week and there was no allergic reation (rice is the least thing that will cause allergic reaction, thats why they say to offer rice cereal first) anyways I started putting a little bit of it in her bottle at bedtime. This kept her full through the night. Everytime you give your child new foods always wait few days in between to note any reactions and talk to your pediatrician. I hope it helped.

Any change in her breathing is a biggie. If you see any swelling in her face... If those happen - which is VERY RARE (99% of the time it's a just a rash) - call 911.
Make sure the cereal is the ONLY new thing in her world (No new laundry detergent, soap, formula, etc.) for a week. This way, if a reaction happens, you can pinpoint it.

Watch for rash, diarrhea, vomitting.
It is a personal, parental choice, when to decide to start your infant on food. I started earlier than my pediatrician probably would have recommended, but they didn't make a big deal out of it, because it was my choice, as this is yours.
(She was eating fruits and veggies at 3 months. She was just so hungry that nursing wouldn't cut it anymore!!)

Watch for diarrhea shortly after eating. Infants do not need any foods until six or more months, and giving them earlier increases the chance of them developing food allergies, now or later. Just so you know, and can make an informed decision.

My son actually became extremely constipated from the rice cereal. We had to switch him to beginner oatmeal cereal instead.

Hmmm... I guess it may be alright; babies usually start eating soft cereal in 4-6 months. You should also try and give your four- month-young baby Cream of Wheat. It's similar to oatmeal, but better for them to swallow and gentle for their digestive system (It's good for any age, too!).

Not exactly sure because I haven't had a baby. But, isn't that too early to be feeding her? I thought babies still only drank milk at 4 months.
