What kind of music are you looking for? Traditional or pop? For pop/rock I can suggest:
Lucio Battisti - his music is from the 60s, 70s and 80s, but he is definitely one of the best italian artists ever!
Zucchero "Sugar" Fornaciari - he does his own variaty of bluesy music, inspired by Joe Cocker
Ligabue - an Italian rocker, great gravelly, rocky voice!
Fabrizio De Andre' (one of my personale favorites) - sort of the Italian Bob Dylan or Paul Simon, if you will. Beautiful lyrics and interesting tunes and arrangements.

On a more popular front, two of the best selling artists in Italy are Laura Pausini - beautiful voice, and Eros Ramazzotti.
Neither of these are my taste, but they are very very popular.

There you go!!
