my brothers baby is suffering dearly from constipation and stomach pains. She was a 2 month premi and is now turning 1 tomorrow. The dr. told him to give the baby the 3 p's. peaches, prunes and pears. He also told him to put caro syrup with molasses in her milk but its not doing a darn thing. She screams bloody murder. Has anyone tried anything else?

My oldest daughter had the same problem. We had to use a suppository to get her to start pushing it out. We tried the Karo and it didn't help. Have they tried using a Low Iron formula? Excess Iron can cause constipation in newborns because usually for the first 4-6 months the baby has a build up of Iron from the mother. We used the Low Iron for a few months and then we were able to switch back to the normal formula with no problems.

My daughter suffer that same way and the only thing that helped us was Phillips Milk of Magnesia I would put a dropper full in her juice or water everyday and she kept regular until she outgrew the constipation and became potty trained. Also when she was really constipated and she needed urgent relief I bought her the children's Fleet Enemas that come in a small dosage and is applied like a suppository and with in minutes she would evacuate. Try it it really did work for my daughter.

Maybe try apples or bananas. A bit of prune juice should work but I would dilute it with water still. If all else fails...use an infant suppository to relieve the constipation.
Good luck!!

My daughter had this situation, and he or she does no longer drink cooled boiled water so I extra a tiny quantity of fruit juice to it. Use the clean , no longer from consentrate sort, attempt orange or apple, my daughter likes apple and mango, dilute some million section juice to 10 factors water. additionally massaging the tummy, commencing low on HER top hand side, as much as her abdomen button, around the marvelous of her abdomen button and down her left side helps, make certain you do it in a clockwise path as that's the way the bowel travels. I additionally used to place a tiny little bit of vaseline on a cotton bud and basically positioned it round her anus and up very fairly. she would be able to recover from this degree, as long as she is taking some formula and not vomitting dont situation too lots. If she does start up refusing nutrition thoroughly and vomitting take her to docs or ER.

If prunes, or prune juice, as well as Karo syrup isn't working there might be more of a problem.....I would consult the doctor again or directly to the ER for more testing. Good Luck!

my daughter had the same problem, but when she was new born, we tried the prunes and caro syrup, nothing helped. we eventually just gave her extra water to drink. This part sounds gross, but we also had to stick the tip of a rectal thermometer up her anus and just swirl it around to get the bowels moving, thats the only thing really that helped my alice to go to the bathroom, we had to do it a couple of times a day.

The only other thing I can suggest is a children's suppository which you can purchase over the counter. If the children's suppository still seems a little large I would cut it in half long ways. Please be sure to read all the directions carefully.

Yes, first make sure the child has plenty of fluid....secondly, sweet juices might help, thirdly try mashed fresh fruit (as opposed to canned fruit), and bread softened with good olive oil might do the trick. Sugar (in large quantities) will act as a laxative but I think the problem lies with the amount of liquid...use ginger ale (not much as it causes burps) and other juice...watermelon etc...if worse comes to worse use a tiny amount of castor oil....with orange juice because of taste.
