My friend told me she was six weeks late for her period, went to the doc who said she did have a uterus 6-8 week enlarged size (but that can happen from a lot of things) and that she was not pregnant. Then she asked me how would you really know if you miscarried, and i was like, um it would be obvious, you would have lots of bleeding, lots of cramping and she said that is just a normal period for her, so how would she really know. So I think she thinks she had a miscarriage and doesn't want to talk about it, but I thought you had to go to the hospital for that kind of thing... I was just trying to give her encouraging words, but am I wrong, i thoght it was obvious? Thank you. It's sad!

With miscarriages, there can be clotting and passing of tissue that is usually not there with a regular period.

You don't always have to go to the hospital when having a miscarriage (especially a really early one), but you should always consult your OB-GYN.

I think your friend probably did have a miscarriage. Who said a 6-8 week size can happen from a lot of things? She is not pregnant (obviously) if she has had a miscarriage. You do not have to go to the hospital for amiscarriage at that stage. She is sad, you are arguing with her about her loss (even if she was never pregnant, to her it's a loss. Six weeks is a long time to miss a period - that would be ten weeks from the last one - more than two months). Be there for your sister. Listen this time and maybe she will talk. Sounds like you have made up your mind she's wrong and needs to come around to it. Be a good friend and let her tell you what's on her mind. This may be something she has been trying for for some time now. Best wishes to her.

It is quite possible for a woman that early pregnant to assume a miscarriage is a period. There would definitely be vaginal bleeding, but up till about 8 weeks, a miscarriage rarely requires medical intervention. Up to 1 in 4 pregnancies ends in miscarriage, many assumed to be late periods. This early on, it would not have been likely for her to see anything that would resemble a fetus. If she never had any vaginal bleeding, it is possible that is to come. A deceased embryo will shrink in size until it is barely discernible by ultrasound that early in pregnancy. Just be there to listen.

I think more often than we know, women get pregnant and lose it before knowing they are pregnant.

If she is worried about weather or not to go to the doctor, she could take a pregnancy test and if it comes up positive, that means there could still be tissue that needs to come out and she needs to see a doc for that. They will either do a D & C (they sucction out the tissue, no big deal) or they give you a medicine that makes your uterus shed the tissue.

Good Luck

I had a miscarriage and all that happen was that I had a tiny pain and then had to go to the bathroom, I just lost it in the toilet, but there really wasn't alot of pain. I know everyone is different, but it is very possible she had a miscarriage.

when both I miscarried I was experiencing extremely sharp pains that caused me to double over in pain. I had no choice but to rush myself to the emergency room.
