It offends me because they only think about the squatter people and dirty places in the Philippines, but people should think that there are better places in the Philippines and not everyone is poor. On tv, this american woman was doing a documentary on the Philippines saying, "The Philippines is a poor and dirty country, The filipino people have to dig through trash dumps to live. This makes me sooo mad. The US has some really shitty looking places it self.

It's a generalization, something all people in the world will have to live with. Not all Muslims are bad, but they still get stereotyped because of some Muslims believe in terrorism. Not all African Americans live in the ghetto and have a mean streak, but they are still perceived that way. it's diversity, one we should all learn to live with. In the case of Filipinos, we are still a 3rd world country, majority are way below the poverty line, it's a reality that we must accept. If you've made good, congratulations, and work on proving that Filipinos can do well in the world, given a great opportunity. I've lived through people calling me chinese (just because the Philippines is in Asia, and everyone in Asia is supposedly Chinese), people thinking that most Filipinos live in huts in the jungle, and Filipinos are good for sending abroad for work. I'm a doctor here in the US, and the first thing newly introduced people ask me is "So you decided to pursue nursing to get here, huh?" Being stereotyped doesn't mean we have to fit that stereotype. It just gives us a reason to work hard and show the world who we can possibly be.

What was the documentary about?? If it was about the conditions of living in the Philippines and the pollution and poverty epidemic then NO, I would not be offended. Lets face it and put our pinoy pride aside, our country is a deveoping nation and pollution and poverty come along with the territory and to generalize all pinoys that way is wrong but if its a way to expose our problems so that we can find help from the international community....by all means, who cares if they didnt mention Greenhills and Forbes...

I think we filipinos focus on our pride so much that we forgot about those less fortunate, who cares if they think we're all dirty and poor! lets focus more on the serious problems which is corruption, poverty and homelessness.....lets show them that even the wealthy or middle class is willing to help our fellow countrymen...

Whoever controls the media controls the perceptions of other people , so you would have to get at them. Like I kinda hate it that right now I'm being determined, because they are playing some senseless rap video in some other country that is defacing my character and image. I also hate that right now in America there is some two-face white guy who is portraying all of Africa as poor and destitute.

What Am I Gonna do about it?

Not a goddam thing, cuz I don't own the media, therefore, I don't control the stereotypes and I don't control the perceptions. I'm just gonna hope that everyone has a little bit of mental constitution to realize that they need to make up there own mind.

First of all, you seem like your saying that the poor people in the Philippines are no good. What I would like to ask you is, are you offended by poor Filipinos?? One of my best friends is Filipina but yes, she is poor. Does that make her any less of a human being?? So, you can be upset with these American networks making documentaries that don't show the whole Philippines. But please, don't be embarrased that they display the poor. Being poor doesn't make them any less friendly or decent.

its the same with Brazil. yes.. brazil has many poor parts.. but many beautiful parts as well.. the US only shows the bad parts of other countries unless its something relating to them.. such as Austrailia, England.. or germany..ect

i dont know why.
Many americans have the wrong or bad impressions of other countries.. cuz the "US" doesn't tell the whole story.. only show parts of it.

sux

and its not the american citizens fault.. if the all information they see if just one sided.. so ..
No.. i do not get offended when someone is misenformed about my country.. and i would gladly tell them.

1 huge misunderstanding is that.. many think Brazil has nothing but Aids.. i have no idea where they got that info from. Brazil isn't even in the top countries.. the US, China, and Russia falls before them..

Americans have a huge rep for being ignorant and introverted
.. and thats sad.. cuz i also love the US..

eh

Yes, because the Philippines is such a beautiful country! Wonderful places to go to, wonderful culture (very respectful) the only thing that sucks? POLITICS!

Metro Manila Philippines - Alabang, Makati and Ortigas area has better malls, bars, hotels than most States here in the US.

#yes it offends, but is that the correct reaction? what are u doing about it? is not what she says at least half correct?
I am india, 60% below poverty line, people of 1 billion, dirt everywhere, even outside posh houses, **** on the roads in towns and even villages, food from rich tables into trash bins, dogs everywhere, beggars all over, only 10% rich, but they naturally corner the best of everything. one lady came and called india a big shithouse. we were angry. but what have we done bout it? what have i done ? nothing. now you and i blame that woman. she has some nefarious reasons to make a film and write a book, glorify the white mans developed worlds culture. 300 yrs ago we were stinking rich country. all the nations in the world invaded us and pillaged. now they are doling aid.
LET THEM LAUGH AND SCOFF. why shd it offend? truth hurts. esply when it is pointed out by unkind b's and sob's.

Yes! Because, I grew up in a rich family over there and people here in the US say that we (filipinos) only go to the US because we're poor in the phillipines!!!!!!!!!!!!!!I know I mean I blame half of this to the president she doesn't do anything to improve our country and half of this to the poor people I'm not saying that it's their fault but they keep making babies and that causes them to loose moe of their money and they make our place look like trash....... I mean some people (rich) prople won't even help them they get richer every day and some people get poorer!!!!!

to be sure it does. yes the phils is not a rich country but it certainly is not "poor" in that sense. i'm half filipino and i've always admired the hardworking and easy going attitude of filipino people. it is not paradise, but it certainly is a much better democracy than the united states.
