Is it because they can be so far fetched, or that we just don't want to deal with complicated ideas?

Well, i am not 100% sure which type you are referring to(both sides do have them), but they all have the same basic trait. They are so overly complicated and are impossible to prove. Some people can not accept that fact that maybe someone they disagree with isn't quite as evil as they think. It is probably a way of dehumanizing someone and a way to rationalize their beliefs.

Remember, the simplest explanation is usually the correct one.

I find that an argument that has more holes than a piece of good Swiss cheese leaves me with the impression that the person(s) making the argument are not serious and that they and their arguments are not worthy of my attention.

As to the issue of complication, I'm at a loss to recall a single bone-headed conspiracy theory that had any complication to it at all. They're usually stone simple and that's why it's so easy to snare the unthinking morons who subscribe to them.

Because they are so slippery. They constantly change shape and texture, avoiding any contradiction by shifting form. Thus, it's hard for the digestive system to get a grip on them.

Just like it's hard for most conspiracy theorists to get a grip on reality.

I think it's because your subconscious mind has difficulty following the twists and convoluted logic that make up the typical conspiracy theory.

Because the truth usually lies in the simplest explanation. SOmetimes conspiracy theories aren't the simplest explanation. Sometimes, they are.

Because they are spouted by lunitics with mental disorders that need to get a friggin job and stop worring about crazy s**t.

Cause they are often the rants of people who suffer from some type of dimentia or delusion... I am the only on that sees what is truly going on... blah blah blah blase'....

They are mostly BS, and those who write them are just grasping at air to try and pin something on a politician.
