My friend's daughter is dyslexic and she is having trouble finding a school in Northern California (Bay Area) to help treat her daughter (1st grader). A school in Belmont just denied her daughter admittance to the school, and my friend is starting over. Do you have any recommendations/places where she can send her daughter to get help for her learning disability? A school, a tutor, anything?

There is an International Dyslexia Association of Northern California that may be a lead in to other resources available. If interested in possible private school situation there is the California Association of Private Special Education Schools. Hope this help I was a Sp. Ed. teacher for a long time and I know how important the right program is for the child to be successful. For a general search type Northern California Dyslexia Education. Good luck....

Things must be extremely different in CA than they are in Indiana!!! A learning disability (which just means they learn differently - not that they're really "disabled") is something that is addressed in our public schools - if necessary, the schools provide some one-on-one instruction for children with special needs. My husband is an elementary school principal and has first hand knowledge of the laws in our state......maybe your friend should contact a public school administrator and see what resources the schools provide for children with special needs and their parents???
