That blooms and flies into seed.?? Or do you just mow it and know your kids and pets are safe in a natural yard? You do know that grass will take over weeds if you have a fertilizer like horse manure or a really good one is geese poop? Has your vet told you that the treated lawns are causing cancer in your dogs?

No I don't use weed killer on my lawn...some of the most beautiful flowers around my place are what most people consider weeds. And I think dandelions are neat. Love to take one in my hand and watch the wind carry the downy away. I don't understand people that want to have "the perfect lawn." What is perfect anyway?

A few years ago i found that by picking the flower of the dandelion off the plant before it even flowers, the dandelion dies. Toward the end the flowers are really tiny but if you pull them off you have no more problems. Some child came to me one year to earn some money and I said I would give him a quarter for every dandelion flower he would give me. At that time, I was picking around fifty a day. He never took my offer, but I pick them every spring and have no summer woes now.

My idea on lawns is "if it's green, it's good". I don't stress at all about broadleaf weeds in my lawn. With good mowing practices (mow before they seed themselves), you can almost eliminate most broadleaf weeds. I think that the 2-4-D products that are sold as broadleaf weed killers are the most toxic herbicides that a homeowner can purchase.
