I'll give an example of how I handle grudges , If they have mistreated me in a way and have a pattern of doing it repeatedly I'll forgive them but refuse to hang out with them anymore with the knowledge I could just expect more of the same. When confronted by the person I won't allow the situation to be anything other than a short and civil conversation such as one I would have with a casual friend. Any deviation from that and I state I've nothing more to say and see ya later. I forgive them for myself , because life is to short to walk around with a chip on my shoulder , so in doing so I'm no longer a part of an otherwise stressful situation. Sometimes its unhealthy to hang around someone whom your untrusting of , so why expose your self to a repeat of the same when you know thats ultimately going to happen . There is no use allowing someone to intrude on your otherwise happy disposition when you can deal with it.

Because neither of them think they or wrong nor will they apologize for something they think isn't needing apology. If anything it's hard to swallow what's been done and be the bigger person about situations. It always seems so much easier to just leave things as they are and not try to fix what's been undone. I know I'm the same way with my dad I've held a grudge against him for a long time probably about the same amount of yrs. but it's hard for me to let go of the past and start new with him.

I know people like that. I feel that they have something mentally wrong with them and should go see a psychiatrist. It is not normal behavior to hold grudges. No one is perfect and that's why everyone deserves a second chance to make things right.

Sometimes when someone is hurt so badly, they just can't let go of it. They don't want to deal with the emotions so they just hold the grudge.

their still stuck back there in the pain they with through. some people, it is sad. hold on to the hurt, they don't know how to let it go. meanwhile it eats at them. What a shame to live that way.
Hopefully they will realize and learn to forgive, but not forget.
Hope this helped you with your question.

People are vengeful creatures who love to hold grudges. Plain and simple, no further explanation required.
