I got my shot about 3 weeks ago and I just want your advice about using it as birth control. Is there any long-term users and what is your opinion? I now you can't take it longer than 2 years i think but I just wanted to know your complaints, ect. so I can make a decision to stay on it the next time I go in for the shot. There is just a lot of side effects with most...just need the right choice to take. thanks!

Depo isn't for everyone, first is can cause osteoporosis, weight gain, mood swings etc. I was on it for one shot then decided that it wasn't for me. Constant breakthrough bleeding anytime anywhere, sometime very light and sometimes very heavy. I like to know when my period is suppose to start and finish call me crazy. I had no other side effects but I know people who gained 20-50lbs and became raging lunatics.

i replaced into on Depo for 5 years. when I first began it, I had really short classes (2 or 3 days) that were really undemanding. After the third shot, i finished bleeding altogether. i keen to modify to the pill, and the first couple of cycles were heavy, and the cramps were terrible. about the time i replaced into due for the subsequent shot (if I were going to get it) I were given pregnant. My husband and that i under no circumstances used condoms or spermicide at the same time as i replaced into on the shot in the course of the 5 years. I believe the shot more effective so than the pill. i began on the shot back when I had my son, I actually were having undemanding classes that very last for some days, the picture of in the previous. i have not had any problems with the shot, yet that is merely me.

There is lots of possible side effects of this shot. Any time you put hormones into your body it can mess things up. For me I bled for three months. The dr. said that it was my body getting accustomed to the shot. And that after a few more shots my body would stop. I did NOT think it normal for my body to do that. Bleed every day for three months. My poor body was freaking out. I stopped after that one shot.

I do know that if it is taken for a longer amount of time that you may have some trouble getting pregnant after you get off of it. That is with any hormone birth control but especially the depo shot.

Good luck in your decision and good for you in asking questions. Lots of women don't ask questions, they just follow blindly. When I see someone stand up and start asking questions...it makes me very happy :-) Ask away sister. And then keep asking.

I've been on it for two years...and my doctor hasn't said anything about only being on it for two years... I hope it's okay for me!! But honestly, the only "complaint" I've had was in the very beginning. I had my period for like two weeks. Then it stopped. I haven't had my period in over two years... So, I like it. There are no other complaints I have. I like it :-) I don't have to worry at all:-) I don't have to be worried about STDs..just pregnancy, so it works nicely:-) It's also the most effective out of all the birth controls except, of course, abstenence(sp?).. :-) Good luck!

i was on depo, i had to stop taking it, it was making me really sick and i would bleed all the time..like months at a time..i began to get really frusterated when it would seem like my period was gone, then out of nowhere i was bleeding again..another thing i didnt like about it was the fact that its really messed up my internal organs, doctors think i wont be able to have kids from it..at least not for the next 4 or 5 years..everyone is different..it is really all just up to you..take the first 3 months..if you dont like how it goes..then switch over to the pill..which would be better for you

The shot didn't work for me. I had horrible side effects, weight gain, mood swings, decreased sex drive, didn't have a period. DO you know they actually give the shot to male sex offenders so they won't abuse anymore.
