I have a very painful cold sore on my upper lip. I will not be able to get any cold sore creams, gels etc for at least five hours. What are some short term ways I can find a little relief? (We don't have any cold sore care products at our house right now either!)

Limes juice direct on the sore, oh yea its gonna hurt! Faster relief add baking soda, it seems the combination sucks up the bacteria it goes numb after, my mom would do this to me when I was younger, it really works!

you want a cold sore to dry out so that it can go away. Adding any oil based product will just make it last longer. Try an infusion of oregano. Steep a couple of spoonfuls of dried oregano (if you have fresh, chop it up into a paste and apply directly) in a cup of boiling water and cover. Let it cool, and apply with a cotton ball. if you don't have oregano, try garlic. I get cold sores very seldom, but they go away in 2 days max with this treatment.

Lavender oil helps some. Campho-Phenique, too. I keep these on hand for...everything.

I would try apple cider vinegar. It will burn at first. This stops pain for about 1/2 hour and is healing. White vinegar will help w/ pain, too.

When you get to the store, buy l-lysine cream and l-lysine pills. Take the pills for a while so you don't keep getting the herpes breakouts.

It will hurt but using alcohol on the blister will dry it up... just put a dab of it on a cotton ball and hold it there until the cotton ball starts to dry out.. repeat as desired.

maybe just some petroleum jelly or lip balm type stuff to ease the pain!
Hope you can get some Abreva soon...that really kicks cold sore's butt!

Eat yogurt, the live bacteria will kill it. My doctor told me this and it does work, if you do not like a couple spoonfuls with every meal will do it. Good luck !
