How to Thank Your Boss for a Raise
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Lots of people dish out advice on how to get a raise, how to negotiate a raise and what to do if you don't get one. Unfortunately, they don't tell you what to do when you get a raise. Proper etiquette and just plain good manners dictate that you should thank your boss.
Steps:
1. Treat your boss like a person by saying "thank you" for the raise. Millions of people around the world today spend more time at their jobs than at home. It's not just a job; it's a second home, and you should remember to treat the people there as you would want to be treated - with courtesy and respect.
2. Decide on the appropriate form of your "thank you." Your "thank you" can take many forms, including a verbal thank you, a written note or a simple e-mail.
3. Pick the right time to thank your boss. It is usually best if you don't make a big deal or a special trip just to say "thanks," so work it into a conversation, hand your boss the note with a word of thanks at the end of a meeting or drop it into his or her mailbox, where it is sure to be quickly found.
4. Try to subtly indicate that it is not only the money that makes the difference. Your boss will appreciate the fact that you like your job, that you take pride in doing your job well and that the money just makes it that much sweeter of a deal.
5. Simply say "thank you" somewhere in the note, conversation or whatever form of communication you choose. Make it clear that you do truly appreciate the money the company is investing in you and your work.
Tips:
Remember to thank your boss as soon after your raise as possible. This will avoid your boss thinking you forgot or that it wasn't really important to you after all.
Warnings:
Avoid any language that smacks of self-deprecation. Saying things like "I don't deserve this" or "I can't believe you gave me this much" will only make your boss doubt that the raise was the right move.

Dont send email. A card does not have to be formal, but it will mean more. Just keep it simple and honest.

Don't send him an email, get a card and send it to him or give it to him, or put it on his desk. That is a better way. Your email may get deleted accidentally. 'Hall Mark ' does make really nice cards for all occasions. Beside this is a much nicer way of saying thank you.

I think it depends on how long you've worked for/with him. If you don't know him well, I wouldn't send something as casual as an e-mail -- I'd send a note on stationary in an envelope. Make it classy by keeping it short and sweet - get right to the point and thank him for honoring your request so quickly! God bless!

I am in construction, yet, as our ways are different than Corporate America"s ,I find that taking a few minutes and finding this boss, to thank him personally, actually goes pretty far, with-out the SUCK-UP factor getting in the way.

Don't worry about a formal letter. Just go tell him in person how much you appreciate the raise, and show him you are worth it.

Well it pretty easy. First thing it not going to be a long letter.
Address your boss by his/her name and say something like this
Dear, ..................
I'm e-mailing this letter, to thank you for deciding to give me the raise and ........................... type something about why ur happy of the raise or that something that u like ur job of something.........
Sincerely &Thank You,
Your name

e-mail is not really the way to go - try some nice card/stationery.
Just say "thank you" and maybe a line or two.
