Has anybody had moderate or great success through affiliate marketing? I can't invest any money right now, and the free blog and ad sites aren't working...anyone got a secret they could share?

I have been an online marketer since 2009 & have sold thousands of dollars worth of products through affiliate marketing.
I can tell you that in my experience I've found that free blogs & traffic exchanges are good to gain experience but nothing more, if you want to make money with affiliate marketing, your best chance is to invest a little money...
There are a lot of one stop shop companies around that offer everything you need to make money online including website/landing pages, sales funnels, email auto-responder service, community support & all the training you need to make it happen.
The answer to your question is 'Yes', affiliate marketing really works!
To be successful online there are a couple of things you need:
A market which is hungry for something
A way to drive that traffic
A funnel to convert that traffic
A high converting product
If you want to learn how to be a successful marketer I would strongly suggest following the best marketers in the industry to see what they are doing these days as money making internet strategies change very quickly.

Affiliate market works, but before you decide to do business online, I suggest you get a book on the basics of Internet marketing. Usually they cost 20$ and more, but it's worth the information. Also you'll save time and money.
