we do have a democracy, as much as is safe. We elect those who lead us and elect representatives to represent our opinions. Its impossible for every individual to have a vote on everything in government. Would you want to spend every day at a voting location?? Ever heard of representative democracy??

I don't know where you live, but this country is the most democratic republic in the world, just because we don't have a direct democracy that doesn't mean that the people of this great nation don't have a government from the people, and for the people. Direct democracy doesn't work. It would allow a very populated area to control the whole Union. That's why there are two senators from every state. That's why we use the electoral college instead of popular vote. Raymond Hartmann.

how do you figure that we dont live in a democracy? It is the closest thing to a democracy in modern times, as you know a true democracy co-exists within anarchy without government control. Further, the desire for democracy is so that the world can build a trade relationship with another nation and exercise some type of control over that state. An example of the democratic desire gone wrong: Hezbollah voted into power through a "democratic" election. Sometimes wanting a democracy can result in something that was unwanted, as evidenced in the aforementioned scenario.

Our country in my opinion,Has given away to much of our heritage. We were founded on God being our rock .Of Christianity as part of our gathering together .
Our country has been under attack from heathens and tarriest for a very long time ,little by little taking away our morals ,our God ,our faith .
Getting into our Government being Judges .
If we were any other country and we went in and started saying they should not have Buddha or what ever they called religion and do away with it in public ,We would be shot or hung !
We have had democracy blow up in our faces .
We need to change a few things ,there should be no position
that is permanent that we can not unseat at any time .
We are the greatest country in the world but don't ever take it for granted .

Well you didn't actually say which country you live in so it's hard to answer that...I know the UK is almost as vociferous in trying to force this as the US, which is funny from a British point of view as we don't have an elected head of state, and therefore are not technically a democracy. Down with monarchy.

Ok what America do you live in. We don't have a direct democracy but no country in the world does. That would mean every citizen votes on every bill, every single order of busness in the governemtn and its unrealistic to think of millions of citizens having to vote almost daily. But we deff have a democracy here .

Democracy is mob rule, and the gov't controls the thoughts of the mob. We are guaranteed a Rupublic, which is "rule of law", by the great Constitution, the supreme law of the land. Nowhere in it is mentioned democracy. The founding fathers knew what they were doing.

Hey, I totally agree with you this country tries to force its opinions on every other country without looking at its own problems first - including a democratic policy. We are arrogant and closed minded hypocrites

We have a democratic republic, not a pure democracy.

Just like most so-called democratic countries. The point is to have the populace have some input as to who is in power, rather than it simply being whoever has the bigger army.
