Because many politicians are so entrenched in partisan bickering that they have can't see the forest for the forest fire.
And because much of the population has joined them in hurling insults at each other, because it takes far less effort or brainpower than actually discussing the merits of the issues.
It's not just the politicians fault. Most don't have enough of a rational constituency that is willing to actually address the real problems. So, they just fight amongst themselves.

Your right, no body is 100% liberal or 100% Conservative, I would like them to come together in the middle some where, to get these problems solved, but unfortunately, no one wants to give an inch from their political positions. They care more for their careers then the opinions of the American people, just like the border issue instead of doing what is right and what the people want, they lack the political will to really get the job done.

Politics, as much as we don't like it, is a business.
The players involved are in the business of winning. For the two largest (but not necessarily best) parties in Canada they must put forward ideas that will be accepted collectively instead of exclusively in order to gather as many votes as possible. They don't truly care that they may be wrong because they perceive what they are doing to be always right. Accepting blame for wrong decisions or beliefs is self-defeating.

"I may not always be right, but I'm never wrong!" LOL
it's the fine line, where the truth is, leaders to start looking for it. Right or Left, people are getting more lost by the day.
Peace is something that must be actively created- peace will not just happen as a result of "war exhaustion"-
"A failure to plan, is a plan to fail"
ok,ok, I'm all clich'ed out- lol
Excellent question, btw

Maybe I'm deluding myself, but I tend to think the best of people. I believe everyone is open minded, and will adjust their attitudes and thoughts when presented with well thought out true statements. For example, George Bush has an IQ below 90. But when presented with his SAT scores, this doesn't hold true.

See, that's what's wrong with the American system. You have to say in advance who you are going to support, so its really not democratic. Its the old 'Why should I listen to you when you voted against me?' syndrome. However, the party in power often makes the assumption that they already know what their constituents want, since you voted for their platform Keep writing letters it your politicians. its the squeeky wheel that gets the oil.

You're right, and to make matters more hopeless, the current American leaders don't like to talk to countries they disagree with such as North Korea, Iran, Syria. They only talk to their friends and allies .They do not understand that diplomacy was created as a means to negotiate with enemies. When negotiation is suggested, they say "well, Syria (or Iran or North Korea), knows what is it is supposed to do." They offer no concessions, or incentives (carrots). They just demand compliance, wielding their stick but offering no carrots.. Some countries see this as bullying. How can this lead to anything except estrangement from the international community and unnecessary, avoidable wars?

Because if they thought their ideas were wrong on an issue they probably would find a different idea for that issue.

No one likes to admit when they are wrong. Most of us learn to admit it but some people never learn this.

the two party system is out of control
It is no longer about the country, it is about power and money and who has it.
