You are probably out of ram memory. Like someone said 512 megs is a good starting point but many people install all kinds of garbage on their systems and they load every time you start your system. These all take away from your system resourses by loading into memory. You can look at the number of icons in the bottom right portion of your tool bar and see how many icons you have there. YOu can right click on some of these and exit or shut them down but they will restart each time you restart you computer. There are better ways of permanently getting rid of them. Click on "Start" "All Programs" and "Start Up" Many of these icons and be removed from that folder and put somewhere that you can start them when you need them rather than every time you start your computer. You can also go to "Start" "Run" and type in the command "msconf" (enter). This will bring up the System Configuration Utility. Go to the startup tab. These are all the programs that start automatically. You can get a clue to many of them by noticing the command line and the location of the file. BE CAREFUL. Many of these are needed to start your virus programs and system programs but a lot of your spyware and garbage programs can be shut down by unchecking the box next to these commands. All of this will speed up your computer by keeping all the worthless programs from starting when you start your computer. This will give you more system resources and ram to run your other programs.

There are 3 reasons why a computer runs slow.

1. Processor Speed: If you bought your computer around 10 years ago (assuming its P3) applications like Limewire, Adobe 7 are processor hungry and slow down ur computer. So if you are running latest software you need a new processor.

2. Memory: Typically when you run big-ticket applications like Limewire, Paintshop Pro, DVD Lab Pro they keep lot of information in RAM. When your RAM is less they rely on the Virtual memory (read paging) that means reading-writing into a hard disk. Well u got the answer increase ur memory to atleast 1GB.

3. Harddisk speed: If you have a harddisk which is 60GB but a very low RPM then the time taken to read an MB of data is high!! So buy a latest HDD and keep this as primary hard disk for your operating system.

Some other minor possiblities
1. Single disk PC:: Typically you should have 2 hard disk. one for the operating system with 40GB and the rest for data.
2. Windows installation 3 yrs old:: Its not proved but its known that windows performance deteriorates over time. A Fresh re-installation of your OS should improve your performance

Hope these suggestions help you.

How much RAM (Random Access Memory) does your computer have?

A good starting point is at least 512Mb.

You could also have spyware problems. Try this site to fix if that is the case,

Good Luck.

basically the Limewire program takes a lot of memory, and also the media player takes so much memory too, therefore you will have slow speed, and besides that limewire contains virus and unkown spywares.
reommand you to download "emuleplus" or "Edonkey2000"
try to download them @ http://www.click-now.net or "http://emuleplus.info
