Being a teacher I can agree with you on a professional level. The children tend to forget some of the sills that they have learnt throughout the previous terms, therefore during the first week or so the children have to catch up with themselves. On a personal note however, I love the 6 week holiday - much required time to charge the batteries and catch up with my sleep!! In answer to you question (which was actually a statement!!!) I think that the system works at the moment and unless there are some other factors which influence change, I believe the holiday timings should remain as they are.

This idea has been put forward for decades and gets the same response which is why you're asking it again.
As a mother and a teacher I would vote for more even holidays but with global warming we can't predict the summer weather extremes and can't sanction using air-conditioning for much of the extra time we'd be in school!!
Children shouldn't be bored, that's the sign of a sluggish imagination and laziness to be honest. My three have said that only once this whole holiday, and ours started on 23rd June!!

It's too bad that you are so bored. That must mean that you have nothing to do. I am retired. That means that not only do I have nothing to do during the summer, but also during the winter months too. But wait! I've got plenty to do. I read three books a week. Did you know that your library has pre-publication books? These are books sent out on preview, to see if anyone would like them. I preview books for the local library and write book reports on them. Of course that is just one person's opinion. I also have two yards to mow each week. I also have some crafts to make. Like an outdoor mobile that I sell for $30 each. Like rain barrels that collect water off roofs, that I sell for $65 each. I also belong to a water volley ball league. I also go to hospitals and nursing homes as an entertainer. I am paid $85.00 an hour for that. Too bad that you can't find anything to do for three months over the summer. Come over here, and I can find something for you to do.

I don't know how other but I prefer to study long and then have long holidays. It's only my opinion, of course. I know some people who have holidays very often in the UK, but then they don't have a thing called 'summer' - they are going to the school nowadays too. It's up to the country.

Yeah I can see your point but it really messes with parents getting time off work as it is without having 3 lots of 2 weeks off! Would throw out the term time contract xx

It is your responsibility to entertain your children and the council will do the decent thing and provide teachers to educate them for you. You do not get babysitters provided during summer so do not look at teachers to do this function for you. Funnily enough, teachers often have families who need provided for and who enjoy the odd break now and again.

They are starting to split them more in certain areas - having more holidays but for shorter periods over summer/easter

It's called year round schools. They still go to school 180 days a year, but have breaks every couple months. No really "summer" anymore.

It's the way to go!
