It changes with every decade really, what it took to make a great band in the 60's and 70's is not what it takes to make a great band these days. In the 50's Elvis was the model, in the 60's the beatles, in the seventies Aerosmith or what have you, in the 80's there were bands like Duran Duran, in the 90's Nirvana. The styles change so quickly that you just have to do what feels right to you, be a trend setter and not a trend follower.

Well this is a tough one PRACTICE! Also having good band members that are reliable. If you are smart stay away from covers and play originals. Having a band is like being in a marriage, it takes time, money and alot of hard work. I am sure like most people they want to party and the money after a gig. What some don't understand is Demo's help but you want a very well recorded demo. you dont want to spend all thgat cash and have a crappy demo. I woould also write enough songs for a 1 hour set time ya dig? I hope some of this info helps, rockstar

Not sure what you're looking for...
Are you the singer/song writer? If so, make sure you know what you want out of your music without being too stringent on future member input.(artistic freedom)
Work together on getting gigs (fliers, demos, attend shows where you are interested in playing)
Practice/Respect your audiance
Know each musicians part as well as your own
Make sure each band member is in it for the same reason.
(i.e. just for laughs in a garage, to make it in the mainstream, to get extra money doing wedding gigs)
