I am not sure about Japanese people eating dog--but I do know that it is eaten around the world. You have to realize that n a lot of places there are no pure bred little fluffy dogs running around being treated like royalty--they are just dogs and a lot of cultures consider them on the same level as vermin. I have a japanese friend, korean friend, and chinese friend and the japanese and chinese told me that they do NOT eat dogs; that its a myth that somehow develop in other countries... particularly, the U.S. My Korean friend told me that years ago there were Koreans that ate dogs, years ago, when there was food supply shortage, but she hasn't know anyone to eat dogs now. Even if they did though, that would just be considered acceptable in there culture. Just like eating cows here (U.S.) is acceptable, but in some countries and cultures, the cow is seen as sacred... like, heavenly or spiritual creature. Each culture has there own belief system, and either you're accepting of cultural diversity or you're not.

I think that it is horrible and morbid for someone to eat a dog, or any other animal thats not meant to be eaten. I have heard that some chinese people eat dogs, and even secretly pull the meat off as chicken in chinese resturants, in the united states... If japanese people do this, it must be in there culture, its gross but japan is not that poor of a country, a lot of stuff in the us is made in japan.. It is gross that they eat dogs.... There should be a law against this, just like abuse laws in the us...
