"From Hell" IS a good movie. It didn't really scare me but had some really good suspenseful/creepy moments.
Johnny Depp is good in it and how they portray Jack the Ripper is really interesting..it actually made me want to discover more about the history of Jack the Ripper, just to see how much of it is factual.
I definitely recommend the movie.

It's not a scary movie at all (or a remake[?] as someone stated). It's the story of the detective that was assigned to find Jack the Ripper and the possible conspiracy behind Jack never being caught. It's an AMAZING film, based on the graphic novel (if you aren't familiar with graphic novels, they are like very long comic books written for adults, not kids) by Alan Moore. It does have a very moody atmosphere, so I can see why you might think it was a horror film from the promos.
I'm not a part of the "Johnny-Depp-is-the-greatest-actor-in-the-whole-wide-world" cult, but he does a tremendous job in this film and even Heather Graham, a woman whose performances are usually wooden, does a good job.
I urge you to see this movie if you like good movies in general.

From Hell is a very good horror movie. its more of a suspense film than a scary movie but when the bad guy comes out THAT IS REALLY CREEPY. dont worry i didnt spoil anything for u but that scene will make ur skin crawl. plus Johnny Depps in it. i liked it cuz this was a good version of the Jack the Ripper movies. it was a pretty good story too so its worth checkin out. after or whenever though u should watch SLEEPY HOLLOW thats cool. hope u like it.

I didn't think it was scary, but it was pretty good. It has a lot blood and gore in it though so if you don't like that kind of stuff I wouldn't advise watching it. The movie was a good suspense, it kept me guessing right until the end and I never suspected who the killer turned out to be. I would definitely recommend it. It's one of Johnny's best performances.

As everyone else has said, From Hell is not really a scary movie. It's more a suspense, who-done-it type movie. It was an interesting movie, but not my favorite from Depp. I think if you liked the Ninth Gate, you'll like this one too.

Good thriller, but not exactly "scary"... Some blood, good story and accurate acting... Definitely advisable...

I don't like remakes or movies that changes a completely idea from other one.
So personaly I didn't like it that much, you'll have to watch and tell
