Have you ever had a back injury? If so this could be the problem with your legs. I have a friend that has basically the same problem, there could be a pinched nerve maybe even a compressed disc in your back that is causing your other symptoms.

Sounds a little like sciatica. But doctors don't usually have difficulty diagnosing that. And sciatica USUALLY doesn't cause swelling. You may have more than one thing going on, which creates difficulty in diagnosis.

If I were you I would see a chiropractor. Get an x-ray and a couple of adjustments. Also massage therapy on the lower back.

The doctors, however, have an advantage over me in that they can see you. Please tell us about yourself: age, weight, activity level and any previous injuries to your back.

There is an exercise that relieves the sciatic nerve. Try this and if it eases the pain, I would take it as confirmation of sciatica. Stand in a doorway so you can hold each side for balance. Put your feet shoulder-width apart and bend your knees slightly. Now tilt your pelvis slowly to the front and up, tucking in your buttocks. Hold this position for about 15 seconds. If this relieves the pain, great! It is also strengthening for the lower back muscles.
