Yes it can...I have the peeling skin left from this weekend to prove it. You are supposed to buy new sunscreen every year. The stuff I used this last weekend did not work at all, and it has in the past. It was like I wasn't wearing any even though I caked it on. I burned to a crisp! Buy new sunscreen every year even though they don't have expiration dates.

When Does Sunscreen Expire

Like any chemical ingredient which degrades in time, the formula's in sunscreen also degrades. Usually the sunscreen has a due date on the box it comes in if its a well made lotion that physicians recommend. Otherwise check the bottle for an expiry date. Sunscreen when old is definitely less effective & you risk sunburn! However, I've been able to utilize old lotion by applying it twice more often than recommended, but it does become more runny &/or clottie.

There should be a best before date on the bottle. Check on the bottom. Also make sure the sunscreen has zinc oxide or another true UVB blocker (like oxybenoline...not sure about the spelling. Most sunscreens just rate the UVA (which is the one that turns you red, but both can cause cancer.)

Hope this helps.

there should be an expiration date on the bottle. Or just buy new sunscreen every summer.

The bottle should tell you the expiry date. It's somewhere around 1-2 years after its manufacture, I think.

Y E S , check the expire date on it. My girlfriend just went thru an ordeal like that. She did not know it expires and within 30 min. she was burned at it hurt like hell. So make sure you check the expire date. I did not know it either until I saw her.

Yes, it does as does everything else. Check the date on the container. Then get hold of the company that made the product and ask what the length of time for the product is.

Pharmaceuticals usually stamp the expiry date at bottom of sunscreen bottles or tubes (eg. Lot6142A Exp2010/12). For more information please check this website or ask a pharmacist. http://www.sunscreentip.com/sunscreen/doessunscreenexpire/

There is an expiry date on the bottle! Plus it may smell add, be a bit more liquidy and may cause a rash similar to heat rash.
