"severe cyclonic storm" (the North Indian Ocean)
"tropical cyclone" (the Southwest Indian Ocean)

The area they are found determines if they are hurricanes or typhoons. Typhoon is just the local word for hurricanes in the Pacific

Nothing, they're the exact same. These storms are called Hurricanes when they are occuring in the Atlantic ocean, and are called Typhoons when they occur in the Pacific ocean.
