~And what medical school did your sister go to? Do you actually believe that your sister and everyone on YahooAnswers has more knowledge than a pediatrician (by the way, that's a doctor who has specialized in the study of children's health).

Perhaps you should pose this question to your child's doctor. He or she just might have accurate information.

Unless your sister is a doctor and she knows that you have a family history of some type of problem with iron, I'd do what your pediatrician suggested. If your baby doesn't get enough iron in his formula, he could very quickly become anemic, and that's no fun. Don't listen to your sister...follow the advice of your baby's doctor. There are so many old wives tales out there that say this can cause babies to do this and that will cause your baby to develop that, blah blah. Listen to the baby's doc.

Babies need the iron. That is why it is in the formula. Also, iron in formula does NOT cause constipation. Talk to your peditrician. People on these websites do NOT always know what they are talking about. in face, I'd say more often than not, they are giving you bad advice.

I have never heard of such a thing. I had a baby boy and fed him formula with iron in it for his entire first year and he turned out just fine. I am also pregnant with another baby boy and planning on feeding him formula with iron in it. If you are worried, ask your dr, but i'm pretty sure unless there is a specific problem with your child it is perfectally fine to give boys and girls formula with iron in it.

I have 2 sons and have used Enfamil with Iron for both of them. They never had any complications. All babies are different so that doesn't mean it won't do something to your son.

Give it a try and see how things go. But be sure not to keep going from one formula to another.

All of my children were not able to take formula with iron..it was TOO strong for their systems ...on top of being put on a soy formula...My middle son ( I have 3 and one daughter) Adam...was on Nutramigen..which is a low soy formula..cause he was allergic to everything!!! Iron tends to bind them...but you should talk to the doctor and see what might be best for the baby...

She might worry about the fact that they said that females require more iron than males, but that is later in life and that doesn't mean that boys don't need iron; we all do. If I was you instead of listening to my peers/family I'll take the little one to the pediatrician, they will draw his blood and check if he needs the extra iron. Best wishes!

Oh my... babies need iron, if you give them low iron (I don't even think they make formula without iron) then they will become anemic and ill. Please don't listen to this!

Infants are born with iron stores that last about six months. An infant's additional iron needs are met by breast milk. A non-breast-fed infant's iron needs can be met with iron-fortified infant formula. As babies move to solid foods, foods containing high amounts of iron should be selected to prevent the development of iron deficiency

Did she say why? I've never heard that. The extra iron can cause constipation though. Ask your pediatrician.

Extra iron is not needed until they are over 6 months-ish.
