say for example they are going to bust a drug transaction they can't sit across the street or around the corner in the orginal squad car that will blow their cover. criminals are very street smart and they can sense,smell, and see a pig when they know it. so the police have to up their game by driving causal cars. or for indentification to tell who is the FBI,CIA, and so on. faster cars to catch them.

Well, they can probably enforce traffic laws a bit easier with motorcycles as they are not as obvious and can get through slower traffice easier than a car. Unfortunately you can't take someone that has been arrested on the back of a motorcycle so you need a car. The cars work for traffic too, and are great for having to transport one or two people who are arrested. If you have more than that, you need a police van or SUV, which will carry more people. You also have vehicles that are for special situations, like the SWAT transport vans or the urban assault vehicle which is for riot situations.

They get good deals on them from the manufactorer... plus nowadays since they have been spoiled by all the additional federal funding they can afford to buy a differnent type for different aspects of the job.. like one better equiped for K-9, one for off road persuits, the famous unmarked ... you get the idea... what they fail to realize is the extra funding was meant to fund the payroll of additional cops not additional equipment
