Post world war, the japanese people united under the government in rebuilding their economy. Ofcourse with big spenders like Defense and Bomb-research was non-existent, the money was directed towards education and infrastructure.

As the infrastructre was ready and the strong education system started yielding intelligent minds it was only natural that the small scale and large scale industries started growing. Export of technology and products increased, dollars started pouring in.

Japanese are obssessed with perfection which saw them refining their best practices to 99.99% perfection!!! This made the outputs of their industries par above excellence and that brought them reputation and defined them above the competition, if any managed to exist.

So thats the success story of Japanese as what they are today.

Need more examples read the stories of Honda, Toyota and Suzuki and ofcourse Sony...

The amount of Japan spending on military is small?
Check the data. Japan's budget is huge in Asia.
And also, Japan is paying nearly US$ 2 billion as "Omoiyari Yosan (Host Nation Support)" every year for US base.

Because after WWII the US paid billions of dollars to rebuild their country with the newest technology at that time. Since then they have been able to stay ahead of the game. Plus they can spend more money on economic growth because the don't spend any money on military other than homeland security.

They did, back in the 80's and 90's though a variety of techniques that western companies tried to pick up. Japanesse companies emphasized group togetherness. More than many economies, Japanesse compaines tried to get the workers to associate their lives with the company. They were given lifetime job security (which turned out to be a myth) and many of the normal functions of their lives were locked into the company. Eventually, the system collapsed because Japanese employees were burning out (some of them even died) because they never got away from work and the company.

First off they are one of the smartest nations in Asia. They are leapyears ahead of the US and Europe in technology and Management (government / corporate).

Secondly they are one of the bankers for the US!

Thirdly, they are a more culturally and education focused nation with no one screaming for individualism and dividing their nation. America should take some cue from them!

The amount they spend on their military is minuscule.

The USA provides all the defense they need.

This allows them to concentrate on their economy.

And let's give them credit for doing so well.
They are an industrious and focused people.

I'm glad they are our Allies.
