I agree: multi-million$$$$ entertainers of stage and music are grossly overpaid for their current perks and privilege. And the overhead costs to maintain such a lifestyle for one month would equal a commoner's yearly salary. But alas, we the commoner do admit some envy at these entertainers having what we will never have, own or touch.
So: let's look at the flip for a second: If you were to right now quit your job, one you 30 years left to retire from, calculate how much $$$$ you would reasonably need for the next 30 years---and add another 27 or so years BEYOND that, which by that last year, you should depart from natural causes. What's the total?
Probably a couple of million scored times 12.
As much as the public thinks Tom Cruise or Scarlett Johansson are currently hot, truth is, one day--they'll be old, grayed and able to walk free anywhere and likely not be recognized by the next generation who are now in their infancy.
And they SHOULD know this, seeing hows many other retired film and music stars of years past have lived, near penniless and broke.
Therefore, I cannot justify their current wild ride perks and privileges, but they ALL have their washed up years ahead to seriously think about.
Sports players ALL take on physical risks that can incapacitate them for life. And if that horrific event should happen, how are they to live for the scores of years beyond that?

These actors demand millions only because they know they can get it.
Our society is so isolated and depressing that we pay good money to get escapism in movies and fall in love with characters acted out by these actors. As we provide the demand for the actor's presence, the actor can levy what he/she thinks he/she can get away with.
Same goes to any celebrity personality that thrives on popularity, really. Athletes are the same, too.
But keep in mind that there are many actors working in service jobs in Hollywood trying to "make it big" one day. They are certainly not getting paid millions. Only the stars get that privilege.

Nope. Just like the pro sports players, they get paid rediculous amounts of money for something that they are good at. It is because we, pay for it, we pay to see them play, and we pay to watch their movies.

GREAT question! I've wondered that exact thing for years - the same for professional athletes. Lets face it - they are doing NOTHING to improve the world or cure any diseases.

Because the public is dumb enough to pay big bucks for movies, concerts, etc.
