I am teaching 6th grade English for the first time next year. I'm looking for suggestions for novels to read aloud to the class - something which will keep them engaged and interested, but that also has some "literary" value.

If you have taught 6th or 7th grade, or if you can remember something a teacher read to you that really captured your imagination, I would really appreciate your input.

I do a lot of reading aloud to my students who are in 6th grade (since some of them have major reading issues). They really enjoyed "Scary Stories" around Halloween time.

The kids also like funny poetry stories. I used things from Shel Silverstien. Or from the book Pizza in the Sun.

You may want to check out a book that I reference. Its by Jim Trelease "Stories to read aloud" (I believe thats the name).
