Which of the two types of computers are more convinient? Which one will you choose and why? The laptop seems to be more convinient because you can carry it around. But I am trying to decide which one is better, other than the fact that the laptop can be carried around. Thanks for your input.

Laptop performance has traditionally been inferior to desktops of the same price. Devices used in desktop computers tend to produce more and more heat, which a laptop would not be able to dissipate due to its smaller size and overall physical characteristics. While desktops continue to outperform laptops at the high end, both types of systems generally offer sufficient performance for the mainstream.

Laptops' upgradability is severely limited, either for technical and economic reasons. As of 2006, no standard laptop form factor exists, and since nearly all functions are integrated into the proprietary-design motherboard, laptops are difficult to upgrade and repair costs are high.

Desktops are currently the most affordable and most common computers than notebook(Laptops) computers. This is because no extra effort is needed to miniaturize the components, or to manufacture components that use up less power.

Advantages Of Laptop Over Desktop

Depends.... if you're a portable travelin' man or woman... obviously the laptop is for you. For home computing though, a desktop generally doesn't have the limits a laptop would as far as upgrading the hardware. Reason being the obvious... it's bigger and much more powerful. That's generally speaking of course. There are tons of super-powerful laptops needless to say, but typically it's harder to simply upgrade a laptop (for instance... a processor.... or video card sometimes... etc...) than on a huge motherboard with plenty of upgrade space and extra slots for all your little toys.... I use laptops only because I travel a LOT, and am always on the move. If I ever settled down though I might get a desktop just because I know what I can do to it, and that it's easier to upgrade if my nerd-side kicks in during a shopping spree if I had that money :)

Laptops are easy to bet with unlike desktops which gives a clear view from a far distance hence leading to insecurity.

The laptop is convenient and has the advantage if YOU NEED the computer away from a desk at your home or work. Most people don't NEED the computer elsewhere, but they buy the laptop, and then spend their time carrying it around and not using it much. Not very advantageous or convenient then is it?

Portability:

- Using city wi-fi hot spots ( meaning surfing the net from your favourite restaurant)

- Wherever you go, your laptop goes with you, no need to using other people computers if you want to check your mail or accessing your files.

- Laptops can be connected to the external sources such as monitors or TV's.

-Ideal for photographers to instantly transfer their photographs into a computer.

- Most of the newer laptop models are lightweight and as powerful as desktop computers ( you can use external HD if you need more space)........

Well there is a point in ur question.
1.Laptops:-advantages :portability, mobility ,small dimension then desktop
-disadvantages: higher price than deskpot , upgrades cost more and cannot be upgraded any part of a laptop, very hi phisical shock vulnerability (due to his portability)

2.Desktops:-advantages:lower prices than laptops , 100% upgradable at lower costs , LOW shock vulnerability
-disadvantages : its not so portable , bigger than laptops (take a lot of spaces on desk)

If you wanna know more.....

I just made the switch from Desktop to laptop.
getting used to the key pad is really weird, I have found it is harder on my carpal tunnel. I do like my laptop, but I don't understand all the WIRELESS stuff yet.
I think I like it just because it is newer, and I haven't really used the portability factor yet.
I guess it depends on what your use for it is.
I can lock it up and keep it away from my kids if I need to or take it with me, to work or wherever we go.
I do genealogy so I can take it to do research and have all my info right there, and that is why I traded up to the laptop.
