Because if they can spread hate and fear, people won't want to take the risk of electing new Congressfolk.
Also, because hate and fear are such wonderful distractors, enabling people to shout really loudly without ever having to say anything rational. It also avoids discussing the merits of any issue.

Why are the liberals quick to sympathize with the terrorists? Not supporting this war and saying that is about oil is a blatant lie to cover for your muzzie terrorist buddies. I have heard tons of lib-jibberish about how 9-11 was our fault and blame our own president! If that isn't joining the darkside of the terrorists, then I don't know what is. And by the way, how are we desperate for votes? We keep kicking your asses! There are a lot more intelligent people in this country than your liberal media is willing to tell you about!

the fact is, each side is trying to make the other side look bad. period.

I dont think theyre desperate for votes, theyve had the White House for the whole century. However, to honestly answer your question its because conservative know they have a more aggresive approach to stopping terrorism where it is well documented that liberals would be quicker to sit and wait for something to happen to the U.S. first.

Until people stop falling for it or the media stops perpetuating their rhetoric, these lies will continue. People become so blindly chauvinistic to the conservative cause that they are willing to slander and wildly casts aspersions on those with differing opinions - decency or moral standards be damned. It's frustrating that people sink that low.
