Which of these Southern states do you like best? Least? And why? (Okay, so it's an insult to true Southerners to call Kentucky "Southern," but UK is part of the SEC and Jefferson Davis was born there, so I went on and included it.)

Most:
-Texas: It's like a whole other country! What a great state! You have deserts, beaches, prairies, green hills, sprawling lakes, and forests all in the same state. Friendly folks, too!
-Tennessee: friendly, nice scenery, music heritage, the Smokies
-Alabama: friendly, Birmingham is neat, love the beaches
-Mississippi: friendly, scenic!
-Georgia: a lot like Alabama, Atlanta has much to offer
-N. Carolina: gorgeous mountains

Least:
-Kentucky: some of the rudest, most scroungy and impolite people ANYWHERE. I've lived there, it's AWFUL! Louisville, in particular, is very snooty.
-S. Carolina and Arkansas: I'm sure they have a lot of good qualities, but they just struck me as being really dirty. (At least folks in Arkansas are nice, though.)

I just prefer the south. I was born in Mississippi so, of course, I love it there. I married and moved to Tennessee which I like and have great friends all over the state - Nashville, Cookeville, the Tri Cities, Memphis - however, I don't want to die there, it's not home to me.

I lived in KY for awhile, Lexington, and agree with you about the scroungy people; but then again liked Louisville because people took pride in their homes and area - maybe that's where you got the snooty thing.

Georgia is ok. Alabama is very scenic - the green trees, large hills and great shopping.

The Carolina's are not my favorite - but, I don't know a lot about them except for the coast.

Arkansas - bad rap. Land of Wal Mart

Texas - where I live now. Texas is not the south to me. I live in Dallas and while there is PLENTY to do, all the time, it's not pretty and it is so hot. There are few trees (in this area), and it NEVER rains. The grass is never green and that tree thing really bothers me. People here are nice but do not go out of their way to make you a part of the community - which has never been a problem anywhere I have ever lived. Very cliquish.

All in all, I guess I would choose MS as my fav and TN second.

I was born in and have lived my entire life in Texas. I love it! People really bash Texas, but if they would ever visit and meet the people, they would love it. We are very friendly and not the least bit stuck-up. We will help you if we can. I have been to the other states and I really dislike Mississippi and Louisiana. They are very poor states and really need the government's help. Tennessee is very pretty and wooded, as is North and South Carolina. Texas, to me, is really a beautiful state, especially around the central part with all of its lakes and hills. Big Bend is very beautiful. It has the Chisos Mountains and the desert. Lots of great beaches in Texas, too.

HEY! What happened to Missouri?!

I've lived all over the country and loved the rolling plains of Texas, the wild beauty of the Carolinas, sunset on Lake Ouachita, the unbridled spirit of Kentucky, the warm welcome you can only find in Mississippi, the wonders of Tennessee hill country, the friendly folks in Alabama and the 4th of July at Savannah's boardwalk...

but my heart belongs to MISSOURI. It doesn't get any better.

PS: I've found that folks respond to what YOU express; i.e. they react in kind.

Hmmm well ok I've been to KY, and am now "Stuck in TN" hopefully not for much longer, I am from Mich originally.
Well I'm wondering if you were born in the South, I'm thinking not from your post, but if not are those the only states you've been to?.
Ok I hear from everyone thats been there N. Carolina is beautiful country...and I've seen pics. I hear the surfing and the beaches are awesome too.

Texas, well ummm they say everything is bigger in Texas I think they meant their heads, lol, they seem to be a arrogant sort of people. hope I didn't offend anyone, that's just the way the average Texan comes off, I've heard some pretty bad stories about Texas, but I can't really say for myself as I've never been there.

Alabama Mississippi & Georgia I've heard about the same, beautiful places to visit....not sure about much else. Beautiful places from what I've seen online.

Arkansas hmmm they have a kinda scary rep. I could live without seeing it, but I'd check it out if I was in the area.

Hmmm S. Carolina I'm not so sure, my Grandmother moved there but I never went, family members have according to them the best thing they got is Myrtle Beach and it's highly over rated... I saw pics and video..umm didn't impress me either way good or bad.

Kentucky...hmmm well closer to Ohio there are some nice lil' towns, I was just passing thru....yeah Louisville isn't exactly the tourist capital of the world, haven't been to Peducah (did I spell that right?)...lol.. umm I hear it's scary not to mention inbred capitol of America...ok thats hearsay..lol...but umm meeting a few from there online, I wont say I doubt it....but they have some nice lil' towns closer to TN.

Ahhhh Tennessee well ok you visited the tourist spots I take it?...ok in my honest opinion, TN has some really beautiful spots, but try living here. esp. in the country
TN isn't exactly the most exciting, hip, happening place in the world, the smokeys hmm I hate mtns...
I've checked out Memphis looks like maybe a rip off of New Orleans, Pigeon Forge/ Knoxville is a really nice place, it'd be my preference if I was vacationing in TN...
Chattanooga ummm dull....but I'll tell ya I got off once in a lil city near Nashville, I was low on gas it was pouring rain... whoaaa!!!! like a scene outta deliverance...just past the LaVergne exit I think or just before....and here I am big as ya please boasting my Detroit Red Wings jersey...lol...I'm sure that excited them ...NOT!!!....lol...Needless to say ..I took my chances on getting gas at the next exit...lol.
But seriously, it's wayyyy boring if ya gotta live here, well Nashville and around in there might be ok, " IF" you can afford it...whew! wayyy expensive....but TN is a volunteer state alright...volunteer all your money..lol...
Sooo expensive to live here, and the small town corruption?...yeeep right outta a movie where you get thrown in jail just cause you came thru the wrong town kinda thing...scandals and secrets all over the place....don't even get me started on that...lol.

I love TN so much that I moved there. The people are awesome, the beauty is spectacular, the air is clean, not that much traffic. The least is Alabama tied with Georgia. I find the people ignorant (still fighting the civil war). We found some real estate there(Alabama) are were told, right to our face, that they wouldn't sell it to us because they didn't want our Yankee stink there. Yes....we did file a complaint and got nothing.

I like Texas the most because I was born and raised here, and Mississippi the least since my mean grandma lives there and there's nothing to do in that poor, backwards state other than get bitten by bugs and scratched by weird plants.

Does Florida count? Because I was born there, and as tacky as it is--it's a tropical paradise.

Kentucky scared me. I kept hearing "dueling banjos" as I drove through it.

Tennessee is very friendly and pretty.

I grew up in Atlanta. Atlanta was once fun and nice (prior to the 1994 Olympics), but Georgia as a state doesn't have much to offer...

Being a native Kentuckian, I'd choose Kentucky hands down, and as soon as I win the lottery and can move, I'm going back. Course, North Carolina is simply gorgeous and you can't beat the food in Louisianna.

I live in Louisville, Kentucky and I don't think that all the people here are snooty. You must have in the rich part of town. I love Kentucky and wouldn't want to live anywhere else.
