Sounds typical of Business in America.

Listen, don't gossip. Do your work. Be respectful of others (treat them like you want to be treated). Look for the daggers, avoid them if possible. Be sensitive to stepping on someones toes so to speak.

Don't upset the leader! After all, there is power there. You need to submit to the authorities there. Be friendly, but only talk when you need to, and not about anyone.

Be yourself. Try talk to everyone even the ones you're not really fond with. Ask them questions like "How's your family" or "Do you have any plans for the weekend". Give eye contact when you talk so that they feel that they can trust you. Be equal with everyone so no one would feel left out and hold a grudge on you. Also make up plans like "Why don't we go to that restaurant tomorrow"

Do your own job well.
If you finish your assigned tasks, don't wait idle, ask for something else to do.
Don't let your work leader upset you. If they are making trouble constantly, take notes and address the problem with your management.

Just do the best job you can do, and if possible feed them periodically, like pizza, cookies, stuff like that.

For bonus points, buy the beer after work.
