metformin is a drug that is normally used for diabetics to make the tissues of their body more receptive to insulin...making their blood sugars lower. metformin's main side effect is that it causes intestinal upset...it often causes people to be very nauseous and have diarrhea at times, but this is usually just at the first when you start taking the pill. once the body gets used to the medication the nausea and diarrhea often resides and you dont feel as uncomfortable anymore. as far as the kidneys and the bladder/urinary system, i dont think it has any side effects. you just want to look out for nausea and other stomach/intestine problems.

Metformin is basically antidiabetic agent, it prevents gluconeogenesis from liver, it causes nausea and gasterointestinal upset but it doesn't have anyeffect on urinay tract or urinary system.
be assured your kidney will be absolutely safe.
just see your blood glucose level you should not develop hpypoglycemia

No drug is 100% safe. Even the pill can kill you. So can Metformin under the right circumstances. My advice to you is to talk to your doctor about your concerns..
Then, consider dumping the meds and looking at a lifestyle change like more exercise, hormone and steroid free foods and no more red meat. It absolutely works as well- if not better than drugs.

Instead of using drug FOLLOW as under Eat/drink milk,pulses,beet root,fruits salad or juice,veg salad or soup,
Discontinue Liquor,Non Veg,Chillies,Sour,Cold drinks,Heavy undigestible food.
sometimes fasting is also important

no. you developed diabetes in young age. so you have to find out wether you are insuline dependent or not.
