well you either invite them or they invite you . I f they invite you , you will have the choice to accept them or not. I you invite sombody they will see your email . So it just depends on who you invite .

there is a feature were you can invite friends to look at you personal items on the page. kind of like bebo.

if you have freinds on your messenger that you want to be able to see your blog ,you invite them so they can know how you are doing ,feeling,etc.and they can comment on it ,it is a good thing doll
