Yes, of course it is important to understand the root cause of terrorism. It would be great to devote resources to building economies so that all nations have the opportunity to prosper.
However, when people choose to become a suicide bomber, the "discussion" has turned from word to action. It's a Catch-22.

I think if we knew the root cause of terrorism, we could put an end to that, and then there wouldn't be any terrorism for us to fight.
I don't think we'll ever know "THE ROOT CAUSE" though, because terrorism can stem from a lot of different things. There's the "Jihad" verse in the Koran. There's economic oppression. There's mentally unstable people like Timothy McVeigh.
The problem of terrorism is such a widespread threat, and goes back so far that nearly all languages have developed a word for the people who commit this sort of act. Terrorism may in fact be a human characteristic, an unfortunate, cruel, and evil type of behavior which at the same time is the inevitable outcome of incorproating enough people into a society. By that light, we can no more stop terrorism than we can stop rape, murder, and poverty.

Terrorism needs a new definition I think . It has been given a defintion of olive skin , arab/eastern nationality, arabic language, muslim religion! I am an american with blue eyes and blonde hair, so I am of course not a terrorist , right? But I am an american, and what I have been seeing these days is, is that seems to fit the bill as a terrorist ! Why must our government go in and muck up the other countries. It is ruining our country here. our economy is in the toilet, I used to be in the middle class, not anymore!! barely just making it. Rich getting richer and poor well you now. I guess if you look toward the money, this is were you find alot of the terrorist, bcuz they are looking out for the money and the root of all money is evil, evill= terror.

I saw a video of some people who were in the West bank. They were mad about something a little trivial. I heard one of them say he was going to kill the Prime Minister over it. It was just a dispute. There are better and more effective ways to protest.

I think addressing problems such as malnutrition, poverty, lack of jobs, and lack of formal education would go a long way in stopping or at least preventing terrorism.

Please don't talk when you know nothing about the situation in iraq. The root of all evil is religion.
