I recently purchased a full mint sheet of one hundred 1946 postage stamps. I want to have them framed as a 60th birthday gift, but don't want to destroy the stamps potential value in the process. How do I mount and frame postage stamps so that they are presented well and maintain their value?

Your local library should carry that type of information...

Postage Stamp Frame

Most 1946 stamps are not realy expensive, so don't worry too much about the "value" - the value of your gift will be the thought and care you put into it.

If you can, get a stamp mount to put the stamps in before framing. These are acid-free and will protect the stamps. One source is http://www.subwaystamp.com/prodinfo.asp?number=ZBR006M

Stamps look nice with a matte in a color that complements their design color or a white matte, but since they are a somewhat odd size, you will probably need to have the matte custom made at a frame shop.

Good luck - I hope the birthday person loves your gift!

use special acid free paper and mount with a mat framing them so they have adequate space.
do NOT use any glues to hold them.
try asking a framing shop or a stamp collector how they would suggest mounting the stamps.
you won't destroy the stamps and the value whatever it is will be retained... often the way stamps are kept and or mounted in frames can add slightly to the value.
good luck. It sounds like a lovely gift.
