There is a much better selection of earrings in pierced ears versus clip-on earrings. Clip-ons fall off easily and can weigh your earlobe down. Pierced are just easier in the long-run.

I don't think it is so much as socially expected. I think women just feel a need to compete, like most men, with other women. They feel that the earrings are attractive, and can be accessorized with most outfits. Well that's all I can think of. I mean I am not a woman so I don't know for sure.

We get our ears pierced so that we can get them to work for us like answer questions to get us into 'Hill-Billy Engineering school' .... like, "1. Calculate the smallest limb diameter on a persimmon tree that will support a 10 pound possum.
2. Which of the following cars will rust out the quickest when placed on blocks in your front yard? a) '66 Ford Fairlane b) '69 Chevrolet Chevelle c) '64 Pontiac GTO" .... (Giggle .... tee-hee ... giggle)

I do it because I like the process of piercing itself. I enjoy making changes to my body through tattoos and piercings.

For the same reason men do. Gravity makes earrings fall to the ground if there is no hole for them to slide through.

Its a FEMALE thingy! Afterall, i have never heard anyone having trouble with women wearing earrings!!! So it is totally accepted and hot! It adds to our beauty! hehe!♥

i dont know about everyone else but mine are only pierced because my mom had them done when i was like 1
