Once on a trip through NY, my EZPass wasn't always registering. I got a letter in the mail a few weeks later, which included a photograph of my license plate that was taken as I went through the toll, stating that I owed the toll and a fine for not paying when I ought to have (the fine covers their hassle of tracking you down!).

The letter came with a form I could fill out and return to them either with the check for the toll and fine or to dispute the letter if I could provide proof that I had an EZPass account....in which case, you provide them with the account number, the reason why the pass wasn't read (you went through too fast or whatever) and they will take the money from the account.

If you ignore the letter and don't pay the fines, they can report you to the State's RMV and a notation might be placed on your license so if you are ever stopped by a cop for any traffic violation, they'd see the notation and could possibly suspend your license or write out a ticket for an even heftier fine.

Bite the bullet and pay the money asked for when you get the letter. Don't ignore it. And next time, be sure to pay your toll!

Please explain the difference between driving on a toll road without paying (because you "have no money"), and stealing something from a store ("because you have no money"). I'd also be intrigued to hear if it's okay for me to steal something you have that I want if "I want it but have no money"!

Toll roads all have alternative free routes one could take that cost nothing. You are expected to pay for the convenience.

You will likely be fined, unless you have done this sort of thing multiple times before, in which case you may face jail time....

I think if you don't pay, that state will put a warrant out on your license plate. So if you are stopped for any reason, you will then get at least a ticket. If you don't take care of that, they will suspend your drivers license.

YOU HAVE TO GO TO LITTLE OFFICE AT THE EXIT...ASK FOR A FORM I FORGET THE OFFICIAL TITLE YOU CAN FILL IT OUT AND SEND IT IN...OTHERWISE YOU WILL GET MULTIPLE FINES BY MAIL...IF YOU HAVE THE FORMS AND FILL OUT THE REASON AND SEND THE FINE SUMMONS BACK WITH IT...SOMETIMES THEY JUST WAIVE THE COST IF YOU PAY THE REGULAR FEE WHICH WAS DUE AT THE EXITS...YOUR LICENSE PLATE NUMBER IS PHOTOGRAPHED WHEN YOU DO PASS WITHOUT PAYMENT
