have u tried Google Earth?
with the software you can navigate through most inhabited places around the earth, displaying aerial satellite photos in a near 3D manner. usually you can zoom in near enough to make out roof tops, streets and vehicles on the roads.
the software's pretty easy to use, you just need a decent internet connection speed... after you've found your lake you can even extract the photo onto an image file on your computer.
you can download the software at http://earth.google.com/
enjoy

Google Earth is pretty good. It includes 1 meter resolution images of many major metropolitan areas and fairly high resolution images for the rest of the world.

This is a very good site. If you live in a rural area Google Earth usually won't have high resolution of rural areas. But Terraserver does:

1. Aerial photos are not the same as satellite photos
2. For aerial photos, go to one of these websites:
google.earth or topozone.com

It would be nice if you can. However, it could be used by hostile entities for military intelligence.
